Two apps that let people place bets on the election, Kalshi and Polymarket, are No. 1 and No. 2 in an Apple ranking of free apps today, according to the company's iOS App Store.
The two apps allow people to wager on the outcomes of various races and events including the presidential election. The betters aren't necessarily Americans, as evidenced by a French national who's placed a multimillion-dollar bet on Trump winning.
The apps are newly popular due to a variety of factors, including a flood of social media ads, an overall rise in gambling popularity and a recent federal appeals court decision in favor of Kalshi clearing the way for election betting.
Google's ranking of top free apps does not show either Kalshi or Polymarket, though both apps have versions in the Google app store.
